Secrets about fragrances

Perfumes have appeared more than 4,000 years ago. In the beginning, their mixing was considered a magical process, which in its essence more resembled cooking. The first perfumes had ingredients like oil, dried leaves and seeds of herbs, spices, nuts and flowers. Initially they were used for religious purposes – attracting good energy and appeasing the gods. Later, they simply served to suppress the unpleasant scents of the former aristocrats who rarely took their bath. Today, perfumes are an accessory that is a delight for the sense of smell, strengthens our confidence, creates our mood, inflame passions and is the contemporary magic of the sense of freshness and purity.

Did you know that many many years ago, to enjoy a perfume, you had not only to spray it on your skin but also … DRINK IT? “Hungary Water” is the first contemporary perfume that has contained for the first time so far in its composition alcohol (brandy) and saturated the air with its scent in the distant 1310 year. In our reality, given the prices of most perfumes, this would be a very expensive investment :).

Creating perfumes, regardless of the epoch, is art, and one of the most important tools for this art is the sense of smell, the nose. For example, perfumer Jean Charles insured his nose for $ 1 million. Interestingly, after he insured his nose, he irrevocably lost his sense of smell. However, he was able to develop classics.

The nose for a perfumer is really priceless and the test for future professionals in this art is to distinguish between 250 different notes in one fragrance. Pretty impressive whatever you look at it. For example, when I choose a perfume, I can juggle with up to 4 fragrances at best. Then everything merges into one.

In order to be able to optimally enjoy the fragrances you choose, I will share with you some interesting facts :).

FACT 1: When you test the scent, do not rub it in, rubbing your wrists together. This will rather destroy the structure of the perfume than prolong the scent. For optimum results, it is advisable to spray the fragrance on the inside of the wrist, elbow or behind the ears. So the aroma will “breathe”, and we will enjoy a long scent. An extravagant place to spray out your perfume is on your temples. So, when someone comes close to kiss you, they will inhale deeply from it. Pulse points such as wrists and neck can enhance the sent, while applying it on clothes will make it last longer.

FACT 2: Male fragrances can also be worn by women – even about 30% of women do it. The way a scent smells on different skins is unique given the different moisture, hormones and pH of each of us. The chemistry of our body can give preference to certain fragrance notes in relation to our genetics or what we have consumed earlier in the day.

FACT 3: Our emotions can be inhaled – probably as an inheritance from the past, when people have relied heavily on their smell acuity to survive. Even today, among the emotions we can smell in the air are fear, happiness and excitement. According to some sources, men may even “smell” the ovulation of a woman. According to scientific research, there is a connection between the fragrances and our emotions. This means that we can fully light up our mood if we choose the right flavor. For example, the notes of lavender soothe, citrus notes feed us with energy, and gourmet notes in some aroma are often associated with happiness.

FACT 4: In today’s perfumes, a wide variety of plants (flowers, seeds, fruits, leaves, roots, etc.), animal ingredients (musk, amber, etc.) and synthetic oils are used. Synthetic aroma can create a more consistent effect than the natural oils, although many people still prefer the idea of a “true” flavor.

FACT 5: Two of the most commonly used floral essences are rose and jasmine. The floral notes in the scent make women feel more feminine and attractive, and men find them extremely influential.

FACT 6: Many people, including among my friends, feel completely naked if they are not sprayed with perfume. Perfume has the ability to enhance our confidence.

FACT 7: If you have inhaled several scents one after another and have lost the sense of smell, you can clear your nose by inhaling the scent of the skin of your hand where there is no perfume.

And because perfumes are so influential here are some of the ever-lasting maxims dedicated to them, which gives me a real pleasure to read and reread:

“A woman should wear perfume wherever she wants to be kissed.”

“Perfumes are the feelings of flowers.”

“A woman’s perfume tells more about her than her handwriting.”

“Perfume is the key to our memories.”

“Happiness is the perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself.”
